Today's a resume day :)

I've posted a lot about scrapping lately so I thought today would be a good day to switch hats. Today, I'm your resume girl :)

The great resume debate... one page or two?
You're ready to update your resume and have a WHOLE bunch of great information to use for it. You've held many positions and want to make sure that you DON'T leave out a thing. After all, you REALLY want to "show your stuff". Do you use a two or maybe even three page layout so that you can cover everything? It's a debatable question.

"Experts" offer many opinions on the subject, but ultimately, I say it's up to you! I personally believe that long resumes overwhelm the reader at times and although it may include a great list of experience, a long resume can cause overkill on the eyes which can (in turn) cause you to lose your reader altogether.

That's why I prefer a one-page functional resume. A functional resume is used to highlight what you believe to be your top experiences, NOT tell your life story! (As opposed to the traditional chronological style). If done correctly, it will get their attention and make them want to meet you and that's the idea. You don't want to give them so much that there's nothing to discuss when you get to the interview. In addition, you can always drop a few extra tidbits in your cover letter.

So there you go! Go with your gut. You need to be happy with your decision, so go with what feels right and if you need some help, you know where to find me!

Sweet Little Hailea :)

While I would be tempted to call her "My Little Hailea" - she is actually my brother's Little Hailea!

I created this layout for my sister-in-law, Kim, who is also a "scrapper". She's been so busy as a new mommy that she is not at all opposed to others filling in a few pages for her!

I hadn't used a scalloped paper on TOP of a solid but tried it out and liked it. One ADORABLE little girl, one PRECIOUS picture, a cute "daughter" card to cut up, cute papers and embellishments... and there ya go!

Enjoy!

* And yes, of course, I will be duplicating this page for MY daughter's book as well :)

These Are People That I Love :)

I really like this one!

This page was created for a Silent Auction prize book I created for "Mamaraderie" in Sacramento. The event was in support of a friend (Robynn Goodell) and I wanted to make the book something that I thought was very "her" ~ this is what I came up with for the front page. The rest of the pages were all done in definite "Kim Funk Style" with lots of flowers, polka dot paper, a bit of bling, etc. and was created in browns, reds, and deep pinks. I found a cute red fabric album with embroidered stitching and think it should make for a fun silent auction item. Go Mamaraderie!

Want to know more about Mamaraderie? Go to http://www.mamaraderie.com/ or to "meet" Robynn, visit http://robynnsbattle.blogspot.com/

How much does OH THAT GIRL charge?

Scrapbooking is a way of life for me. I love creating and I LOVE giving scrapbooks as gifts. I love creating books for my customers and seeing the looks on their faces as they thumb through them for the first time. I love hearing them say, "I hate to give this one away!" when they've had one created for someone else. All of these things bring me a great deal of joy.

Talking about money? NOT my favorite thing - what's fun and creative about that? But here's the lowdown for you. I do not work off of a formal pricing list for my creative work. I quote each project on an individual basis, based on these pricing guidelines:

For 12 x 12 books:
I would charge "around" $125 for a book where I am creating pages for you and you are adding the photos afterwards. These books would be 20 pages in length (10 sheet protectors - double-sided).
For a 12 x 12 book that I have created for/around your photos where I am attaching the pictures as I go, my fee is going to be right around $225. This is a very labor intensive project as I shop for all papers and supplies to match your photos and purchase extra adhesives to attach your photos, etc. This "guideline" again is based on about 20 pages (10 sheet protectors). If I go over that amount, I will charge by the layout (2 facing pages). By meeting with you and looking at your pictures, I will quote you based on how many pages I think it will take.

For 8 x 8 books:
I would charge about $95 for an 8 x 8 book where I am creating pages for you and YOU are adding the photos afterwards. These books would be 20 pages in length (10 sheet protectors).
For an 8 x 8 book that I have created for/around your photos where I am attaching the pictures as I go, shopping for special papers, extra adhesives, etc. I would charge about $150.

The 12 x 12 and 8 x 8 fees are based on the purchase of a basic scrapbook/album ~ prices will be higher if you select a more expensive album, etc.

6 x 6 books:
I LOVE creating 6 x 6 books! These books are a quick and easy way to put a book together and get a lot of bang for your buck! These books tend to run about $50 (including photo placement!) and can be created promptly when you're in need of something FAST! Even if you're not in a hurry, a 6 x 6 album is a lot of fun in a little book! These books can be fun if you want to do duplicate/multiple albums too. For example, I created 4 6 x 6 albums a few years back for my daughter and her 3 closest friends. It was a lot of fun to create them and they loved them :)

Add-ons:
If you are going to be giving the album as a gift and would like to have it all packaged up and ready to go, I can do that for you! For $20.00 I will package it up in an appropriately themed gift bag, create a matching gift card for it and include a small package inside with a fresh roll of double-stick tape, instructions, and ideas for the person you are giving it to. It's kind of a fun way to "wrap it up"!

Time lines and Rush fees:
If you know you want to work with me soon, let me know! I do live a busy life between my family and creative ventures and it really helps to be able to know ahead of time, so that I can allow time for your scrapbook. If you need something done in a hurry I will try my absolute best to squeeze you in, but I will charge a $25 rush fee. I really need at least 2 weeks to complete an average project and 4 weeks to complete a project which includes adding photos, etc. And remember, my delivery/promise dates quoted to you may include delays if I am already in the middle of another project. As always though, I am here for YOU, and appreciate your business. I will ALWAYS try my best to meet your needs.

Special Project Combos: If you tell me what you need OR share an idea that you have, I can give you a custom quote. For example, I just worked with a nice lady named Louise who wanted a scrapbook as a special gift for her future daughter-in-law's bridal shower. She knew her daughter-in-law-to-be wanted to start scrapping herself... SO I put together a package which included an album with a few pages completed and the rest plain scrap pages (that she could add to), a gift certificate to "The Scrapbook Addict" so she could buy embellishments of her choosing, AND included a crop night with me to help her get going. We topped it off with "pretty packaging" and a matching gift card and Louise was ready to go to the shower with a truly unique gift! The ideas are endless - try me :)

Customer Supplied Scrapping Supplies:
If you have purchased products and are ready to finally put them to use but don't want to do it yourself, I can help you with that too. We would simply need to meet so that I can see what you have and then give you a quote.

*Resumes are a different story and there is a price list for those ~ to see samples or to receive a price list, kindly email me at kfunkcreates@sbcglobal.net

Have a lot of supplies of your own??? We can do that too!

There are a LOT of ladies out there who, with great intentions, bought a full supply of scrapbooking supplies.

  • Maybe you went to a Creative Memories party, bought an assortment of great things and then stuck them in the closet never to be touched again...
  • Maybe you were given a Scrapbook Kit as a gift. These gift sets tend to come with EVERYTHING you might need to complete a book of your own!
  • Maybe you went to a NEW Scrapbook Store OR to Michael's and bought papers thinking, "Maybe THIS TIME, I'll really do it!" but you still don't know where to start...

Are you shaking your head yes? We can help you in a couple of different ways!

  1. We can take YOUR supplies, add a few updated items of ours for a minimal investment (or not) and charge you a labor only fee to complete a book for you!
  2. YOU can join me (Kim Funk) at a crop night at "The Scrapbook Addict" in West Sacramento and I can teach YOU how to put your supplies to good use and you can finally CREATE a book (or even a few pages) yourself! I would merely charge you $25 for the evening which would include the cropping fee at the shop.

Remember, scrapbooking is NOT a race. If you're not sure where to start, what kind of album to create, how to "library" your pictures/albums (maybe you want a Holiday book and a Sports book or maybe you want to do all of your albums chronologically... we all have different ideas) then don't WORRY about it! As long as you have one album with sheet protectors in it to SAVE your work, then you can get started!

If you are interested in either of these ideas, simply shoot me an email with your thoughts and I'll reply promptly with solutions for you. Always remember, your local scrap shops are staffed with helpful and talented scrapbookers that are ALWAYS ready to offer help. If you want to check out my favorite local shop, visit http://www.imascrapbookaddict.com/

Applause!

Thank you Caroline Corona for submitting photos for our site!

Caroline has 3 grown sons who have, 1 by 1, received a BIG scrapbook full of pictures from birth until the present!

We just finished book number 4 for her which was a 50th Anniversary Album for a close family member :) We love knowing that the receivers enjoyed their books!

The group shot above was taken at the 50th Anniversary Party.

Thanks for sharing Caroline!
